A Homemade Iced Matcha Latte Recipe

Mar 24, 2020 ·

Since I pinpointed coffee as a trigger for my migraines, I have switched over to matcha as my morning wake-me-up beverage. However, getting an iced matcha latte at the coffee shop can cost up to $5 every day!!! Making iced matcha lattes is delicious, incredibly easy, and saves you money. Here's a recipe for how to make a homemade iced matcha latte.

Homemade Iced Matcha Latte

What is matcha?

Matcha literally means "powdered tea." When you order regular green tea, components from the leaves get infused into hot water, then the tea bag is discarded. With matcha, you’re drinking the actual leaves, which have transformed into a powder that's then mixed with boiling water.

3. Top with almond milk and serve!

How much money can I save by making a homemade matcha latte at home?

This is my favorite brand of matcha -- it's $24.99 on Amazon for 1 ounce of matcha and has 30 servings of matcha in it. That's $0.83 per serving. If you bought an iced matcha latte every day for 30 days, it would be $150 a month. If you made an iced matcha at home every day with some almond milk, it would be closer to $30 a month. You would save $120 a month by making your matcha latte at home!

Should I use culinary grade or ceremonial grade matcha?

I personally like to drink ceremonial grade matcha and cook with culinary grade matcha. I really like the grassy, bright flavor of ceremonial matcha. It's a little more expensive, but still cheaper to make it yourself at home than go out and get lower quality matcha lattes hiked up to $5.
